Drum adalah kelompok alat musik perkusi yang terdiri dari kulit yang direntangkan dan dipukul dengan tangan atau sebuah batang. Selain kulit, drum juga digunakan dari bahan lain, misalnya plastik. Drum terdapat di seluruh dunia dan memiliki banyak jenis, misalnya kendang, timpani, Bodhrán, Ashiko, snare drum, bass drum, tom-tom, beduk, dan lain-lain.

Dalam musik pop, rock, dan jazz, drums biasanya mengacu kepada drum kit atau drum set, yaitu sekelompok drum yang biasanya terdiri dari snare drum, tom-tom, bass drum, cymbal, hi-hat, dan kadang ditambah berbagai alat musik drum listrik. Orang yang memainkan drum set disebut “drummer”.

10. Mike Portnoy – Dream Theater

Michael Stephen Portnoy (lahir April 20, 1967) adalah pemain drum amerika terutama dikenal sebagai drummer dan backing vokalis band metal progresif dream theater. Drum dikenal karena kehebatannya dan keahlian teknis, portnoy telah memenangkan 23 penghargaan dari majalah modern drummer. Dia telah bersama-sama menghasilkan lima album terakhir dream theater dengan gitaris john petrucci, mulai dari metropolis pt. 2: Scenes from a memory. Dari a change of seasons dan seterusnya, portnoy telah menulis sejumlah besar lirik dream theater, mengisi kekosongan yang ditinggal oleh kevin moore, yang meninggalkan band ini setelah rilis band awake. Dia adalah orang termuda kedua (setelah neil peart) yang akan dilantik ke modern drummer’s hall of fame (pada usia 37 tahun).

Paice Ian Anderson (lahir 29 Juni 1948) adalah seorang musisi Inggris, paling dikenal sebagai drummer dari band rock seminalis, Deep Purple. Ia adalah satu-satunya anggota pendiri band masih tampil dengan bandnya.

8. Hal Blaine – Session Man

Hal Blaine (lahir Harold Simon Belsky 5 Februari 1929, Holyoke, Massachusetts) adalah seorang musisi penabuh drum. Ia paling dikenal karena karyanya dengan Wrecking Crew di California. Blaine bermain di berbagai hits dengan band populer, termasuk Elvis Presley, The Ronettes, Simon & Garfunkel, The Carpenters dan Beach Boys. Blaine adalah anggota Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

7. Bill Bruford – Yes, King Crimson

William Scott Bruford (lahir 17 Mei 1949 di Sevenoaks, Kent), lebih dikenal sebagai Bill Bruford, adalah drumer Inggris yang diakui kuat, precision tinggi, dan polyrhythmic. Dia adalah drummer asli yang sangat sukses di grup rock progresif Yes, dan telah menjadi tokoh terkemuka dalam gerakan rock progresif. Bruford telah melakukan sejumlah tindakan populer sejak awal 1970-an, termasuk bertugas sebagai drummer Genesis. Dari tahun 1972 sampai 1997, Bruford adalah drummer band rock progresif King Crimson. Bruford pindah jauh dari rock progresif berkonsentrasi pada jazz, memimpin grup jazz sendiri, Earthworks, selama beberapa tahun. 6. Terry Bozzio – Frank Zappa

Pada usia 13 ia menyaksikan performa The Beatles utama di The Ed Sullivan Show, dan memohon ayahnya untuk pelajaran drum. Selama masa ini ia bermain di band garasi Blue Grass Radio, The Yarde, dan Jungle Tamalpaias Mountain Boys. Ia mulai rekaman dan tur dengan Frank Zappa pada tahun 1975, dan muncul dalam film konser Baby Snakes.

5. Ginger barker – cream

peter edward “ginger” baker (lahir 19 agustus 1939, lewisham, south london) adalah seorang drumer inggris, terkenal karena karyanya dengan cream dan blind faith. Ia juga dikenal karena banyak asosiasi dengan dunia baru musik dan menggunakan pengaruh afrika dan kolaborasi beragam seperti karya-karyanya dengan band rock hawkwind.

4. Carl palmer – elp

carl palmer (nama lahir kendall frederick carl palmer, 20 maret 1950, handsworth, birmingham) adalah seorang inggris dan merupakan drumer dan pemain perkusi. Ia dihormati sebagai salah satu yang paling dihormati drumer rock yang muncul dari tahun 1960-an. Di samping itu, palmer adalah veteran dari sejumlah band-band inggris yang terkenal, termasuk crazy world of arthur brown, atomic rooster, emerson, lake & palmer, dan asia. Ia juga berkontribusi terhadap karya-karya oleh mike oldfield.

3. Keith moon – the who

john keith moon (23 agustus 1946 – 7 september 1978) adalah drummer inggris dari grup rock the who. Ia mendapat pujian untuk permainan drum yang energetic, dan ketenaran untuk gaya hidup yang aneh, ia mempunyai julukan, “moon the loon.” (si gila moon). Moon bergabung dengan the who pada tahun 1964. Ia bermain di semua album dan single dari debut, 1965’s “i can’t explain”, hingga who are you, yang dirilis tiga minggu sebelum kematiannya.

Moon dikenal inovatif,bermain seacara dramatis, sering menghindari ketukan kembali dasar, teknik yang terfokus pada cepat, cascading roll di seluruh tom, ambidextrous (kidal), double bass drum dan simbal crash. Ia secara luas dianggap sebagai salah satu yang terbesar dalam sejarah drumer rock and roll.

2. John bonham – led zeppelin

john henry “bonzo” bonham (31 mei 1948 – 25 september 1980) adalah seorang penabuh drum dan penulis lagu inggris, paling dikenal sebagai drummer dari band led zeppelin.

Ia terkenal karena kekuatannya, cepat kaki kanan, suara khas dan “feeling” untuk rythm. Ia secara luas dianggap sebagai salah satu drumer terbesar dalam sejarah musik rock dinilai oleh musisi dan kritikus lainnya di industri.

neil ellwood peart oc, (lahir september 12, 1952) adalah musisi kanada dan seorang penulis. Ia paling dikenal sebagai penabuh drum dan penulis lirik untuk band rock rush.

Peart tumbuh di port dalhousie, ontario (sekarang bagian dari st catharines) yang bekerja dengan pekerjaan yang kadang-kadang aneh. Namun, ambisi sejati adalah menjadi musisi profesional. Selama masa remaja, ia melayang dari daerah ke daerah band band dan keluar dari sekolah tinggi untuk mengejar karir sebagai full-time drummer. Setelah bertugas di inggris dan berkonsentrasi pada musiknya, peart kembali ke rumah, di mana ia bergabung dengan sebuah band toronto lokal, rush, pada musim panas 1974.

Sedikit bocoran tentang album baru a7x. Album ini genrenya lebih ke alternatif dan soft rock, ini mungkin dikarenakan Mat Shadow yang sudah tidak bisa scream lagi. Dan juga mereka ingin mengulang kesuksesan seperti pada lagu Dear God yg melejit. Tapi masih mengusung genre metalcore. Yah sebut saja genre ini crossover.

Lagu yang telah sedikit dibocorkan yakni Unwind The Chainsaw. Pihak warner Bross sendiri masih merahasiakan tentang lagu ini. Jadi kalau kalian melihat vidoe yang ada di youtube itu salah besar. Beda banget sama suara Mat Shadow, walaupun suara gitarnya seperti synyster. So, jangan ketipu!

Hello everyone -
I realize that with the last record we stayed away from personally updating you guys with loads of information about how we were doing and about how the tours were going. We stayed away from doing too many interviews, radio and T.V. spots, trying not to overexpose ourselves. Not seeing ourselves everywhere and hearing about stupid shit we’ve said has generally made us happier people, much unlike the “City of Evil” record cycle. But I feel in doing so we have stopped communicating with the people that truly care about this band, the fans. So I’m gonna try to make these updates a little more frequently.

First I wanna say we had a great time touring this record. From the first tour in clubs, to headlining “Taste of Chaos”, to going out with Iron Maiden in Europe, to finishing it up with Buckcherry, Papa Roach, Burn Halo, Shinedown, Saving Abel and Rev Theory. We’ve made some great new friends and just had a great time playing to you guys every night. Rock on the Range and opening for Metallica in Mexico City were just added bonuses. We are gonna start rehearsing here in a couple days to get ready for Sonisphere over in the U.K and Ireland. We are looking forward to that.

We have been relaxing after almost 20 months of straight touring, but we have also been throwing around a lot of ideas for the new album. I think after we get back from the U.K. we will be able to fully get into this writing process. I’d hate to say more and start speculation and rumors this early in the process so thats all I’ll say about the album. Time flies and you’ll have a new record on your ipod before you know it, so be patient.

Since we’ve been home I’ve been working on a song with Slash for his solo album. It’s a killer track and he plays some of the most technical stuff I’ve ever heard from him.
But since it’s his record and not mine, more updates will have to come from him. “Waking the Fallen” went gold today and though we don’t talk about record sales much, this feels like a huge accomplishment. That record sold 3,000 copies the first week and is now well over 500,000 copies. In a day when music is virtually free, its a huge testament to the fans we have and the dedication they have given us for 10 years. Thanks guys and girls, we look forward to 10 more!
